We all know the difference between a mutual fund, a pension, and a savings account . You don’t spend too much time thinking about what a savings account IS, but rather, what it DOES for you. The same with a pension. A pension has one purpose: to pay yourself an income you can never outlive. Easy stuff. Very smart planning. IF you are fortunate enough to have one. Mutual funds typically have one main purpose: to help you try to grow your money, but with more risk than a bank account or a pension. So, what is an annuity? Well, it can combine all of these features in one instrument. Today, we’ll break down the basics of annuities to help make them simple and easy to understand. A fact filled show you don’t want to miss, MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

An annuity is a retirement account with “airbags” and a seat belt. Buyers invest a sum of money in a particular annuity, and in exchange, they’re guaranteed a steady monthly check for a set number of years, or for life, their choice. On an increasing basis, annuities are being used by retiring professionals to take the risk out of their nest eggs. In years past, pensions were common. Today, it is more common NOT to have a pension. The satisfaction rate on annuities is actually far higher than mutual funds. So why do low-information newspaper and internet journalists knock annuities? Because they are LOW on information! Today, we’ll fix that and we hope some uninformed journalists are listening in. Then Medicare and Health insurance expert Shelley Grandidge joins us for the Q & A.  You don’t want to miss today’s show…MASTERING MONEY IS ON THE AIR!!

Your job as an investor—or the job of the person you hire to manage your money—is to optimize gains, while minimizing losses.  Sounds easy, but today, you need a strategy built for the low interest rate environment of the 2020’s, not the 1990s.  Well-chosen stocks can be long-term sources of wealth creation, just like well-located real estate. This is true even if you buy at what seems like the worst possible time. For example, if you invested in an S&P 500 index fund in early October 2007, the next couple of years would have felt awful.  If you were still contributing to a 401k, however,  it turned out to be really good news. Your steady contributions kept buying more units of mutual funds at lower prices.  Even buying at the so called “wrong time” just before the 2008 crash, HIGH QUALITY  stocks delivered terrific gains by 2020—upwards of 300 percent—by just staying the course and not panicking. That said, in retirement you will be unemployed for 30 years or so. Therefore, a properly built financial plan will separate income capital from growth capital into a Smarter Bucketing system to protect against crashes. Today, we’ll get into the fundamentals of putting together a rock solid financial plan…for the LONG HAUL.  Don’t miss it….MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

The simple material we call Silicon has literally revolutionized human civilization to this point.   Testifying to its greatness is more than 70 years’ worth of steady progress in electronic computing: from the first primitive desktop calculators to that pocket-size supercomputer we call a smartphone.  If you formulate silicon just right, and shape it into a transistor, it can be both a conductor and an insulator, depending on the charge you run through it.  If it wasn’t for this unique property, the entire digital revolution…everything from TikTok to Covid vaccines– would be impossible. Silicon is plentiful. It makes up 28 percent of the earth’s crust.  But silicon is showing its age when it comes to technological advancements. Some say the reliable doubling of the computational power of microchips every two years, known as Moore’s Law, is dead. Today, we’ll examine the materials being developed to keep Moore’s alive and the capabilities may shock you. Then Medicare and health insurance expert Shelley Grandidge joins us. A fascinating show for you, so don’t miss it…MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!!

For worry free income, preservation and indexed growth in retirement with no market losses and no management fees, today’s NEXT GENERATION uncapped retirement index annuities with income riders are becoming the asset of choice for 401k and IRA rollovers.   Once upon a time, government bonds could provide the security and financial peace of mind required in retirement. In fact, “living off your savings” was the time-honored approach to retirement.  But when bank CDs and bonds are paying zero or near zero, and that’s your only plan, you are no longer LIVING off savings….You’re just spending down your principal haphazardly!  You are just paying your principal back to yourself, with little or no interest, and no guarantee of what happens when you run out. Can anyone seriously consider retiring on a bond or bank account  paying less than one or two percent, with inflation headed to three or four percent annually one day? Today, we’ll show you how to avoid poor retirement income planning  A power-packed show you don’t want to miss!   MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!!

The demand for annuities is strong despite the desperate attempts at unfounded criticism by promoters of front-loaded mutual funds– like radio host Dave Ramsey, and elite TV billionaires like Ken Fisher– who seem to think they are smarter than you! As we have said many times, Ramsey has done noble work helping younger middle earning Americans get out of debt. We applaud him.  But his advice for retirees has been called into question by many in the financial industry.   Every year, for the past ten years, an average of $200 billion dollars in annuities have been acquired. Memo to Dave Ramsey and Ken Fisher:  SOMEBODY is buying them, and most of them are pretty darn SMART!!   We’ll review why annuities are so often used for 40k rollovers, then Shelley Grandidge joins us for the Q & A. For more than eight decades, the Social Security program has played a critical role in providing a financial foundation for our nation’s retired workers. Most people  build their  long term retirement plan around the certainty of a steady check from Social Security.    According to the Centers for Budget and Policy Priorities, the system singlehandedly pulls more than 15 million retirees out of poverty every year. It’s safe to say that without it, our nation would be in a constant state of recession.  Which is why it is alarming that the program faces serious financial hurdles in the years ahead. In fact, due to the COVID 19 Pandemic, the Social Security retirement fund could face depletion as early as 2030. Steve and I will review the details and the facts. Then Medicare and Health insurance expert Shelley Grandidge joins us for the Q & A.  A truly fact-filled show today that you don’t want to miss…MASTERING MONEY  is on the air!!!

The average interest rate on a six-month certificate of deposit was 9.1% in 1970 and 13.4% in 1980. Back then, of course, inflation was higher but so were wages on a relative basis… and those higher interest rates, plus the prevalence of pensions, allowed many retirees to generate livable income streams without invading their principal or taking risks in stocks. But two decades worth of declining interest rates have dragged yields down to a point where the idea of retiring on CDs and bonds is not feasible. Morningstar financial editor Christine Benz believes the most effective way to beat low-interest rates is with bucket planning. Today, we’ll compare her idea for bucketing to the IQ Wealth System .You don’t want to miss today’s show, MASTERING MONEY is on the air!

As we get reminded often, women have a better chance of making it to age 100 than men — in fact, 82% of the 53,364 centenarians alive in 2010 were female. The ratio of females to males @ age 100 remains pretty steady. It’s why you hear the statistic that eighty percent of men die married, while eighty percent of WOMEN… die single.  The big problem for women is that they may spend ten years or longer on their own after their husbands pass–at a time when they may not want to be fussing over investments.  It’s been found that Baby Boomers’ number one financial fear is running out of money while still in their eighties and then living into their nineties dead broke while the government robs Social Security. We’ll see if that fear is justified today, and then health insurance expert SHELLEY GRANDIDGE joins us.   A timely show you don’t want to miss, MASTERING MONEY is on the air!!
